NOISE

More NOISE!

Some how I forgot to mention the NOISE is back:

No one is sure what NOISE stands for but I'm pretty sure the O is for Onespeed and the S is for Solidarity and that's enough for me. The first NOISE event was put on by Dr. Doom, Spaceman, Drew and Chevil in 2002. When I "won" the NOISE belt last year I was informed that I was also responsible for putting on next year's race, so here it is.
I'll keep it traditional, starting at high noon at the Fresh Pot on N. Mississippi. We'll have a friendly tour through various superfund sites and Bosnian villages en route to Pier Park. A few laps of the hilly course will decide whose name is burned into the belt this year. Other prizes will be awarded for : best jump, best fixed gear with no brakes, most flats and worst crash. You can enter on any kind of bike but only single speeders get prizes. Knobbies are recommended but it can be done on slicks if you're a badass. Bring extra patches and tubes, there's lots of glass...oh yeah and it's free.

After his stunning victory last year we told R. Kelly that he had to plan the next one and defend his title. I gotta say totally picked up the ball and ran with it.

Oh, and the word on the street is Spaceman may be making a suprise appearance for it.

NOISE and Zombie Holocaust

Saturday, October 29th was another, excellent day to be a cyclist in Portland with a full day of riding in two events. The first was an urban single-speed mountain bike ride and the second, a zombie themed alleycat.

NOISE 2003

A brisk gray Portland Saturday morning served as a setting for the N.O.I.S.E. (Northwest One-speed International Solidarity Event). While the international single-speed jet set rode in the glowing Australian spring, twenty-odd dedicated derelicts assembled in North Portland to ride to the secret rally spot for some off road fun. After riding five miles to Pier Park, they swilled cheap beer, smoked too many cigarettes and talked smack until the junior high school cross-country runners cleared the trail. When the Black Cats exploded the riders were off in a Le-Mans running start, and four laps to glory.
